The battle for the top volleyball spot in the Northern Lights Conference’s North Division went Palmer’s way.

Palmer handed Kodiak its first losses since late August in a pair of Northern Lights Conference matches Friday and Saturday at Palmer High School.

The losses snap Kodiak’s 10-match winning streak. The Bears finish the regular season at 10-4.

On Friday, the Moose won 25-7, 20-25, 25-18, 25-22, which was followed by a 25-15, 25-21, 21-25, 13-25, 15-11 victory on Saturday.

The two victories give Palmer the No. 1 seed in the North Division with a 9-1 record. Kodiak heads into this week’s NLC Tournament as the North’s No. 2 team with a 7-3 mark.

The conference tournament bracket will be released today, but it appears Kodiak will play Homer, the South Division’s third seed.

Palmer draws Kenai, the South’s lowest-seeded team.

On Friday, Hannah Wandersee led Kodiak with 11 kills and two solo blocks.

Manya Wandersee had three solo blocks and six block assists, while Rosevonne Sala paced the Bears with 24 digs.

Carole Lamp added 20 assists.

Lampl led Kodiak on Saturday with 12 kills and 16 digs, while Hannah Wandersee chipped in nine kills.

Sala added another 29 digs, while Lorrie Laird had 21 digs and five kills.

Tasha Pedersen led Kodiak with 22 assists.

Kodiak’s junior varsity lost Friday 23-25, 14-25, but won Saturday 25-13, 25-22.

Kodiak’s C squad lost Friday 14-25, 25-22, 16-14 and won Saturday 25-20, 28-26.
