Barnwell returns to Mirror

A familiar face returned to the Kodiak Daily Mirror Wednesday as its newest reporter.

Jack Barnwell resumes his position covering the Kodiak Island Borough and education, among other topics. Barnwell previously worked at the Mirror from October 2018 to April 2019 before returning to his native California.

Barnwell expressed his eagerness to dive back into the community as a reporter and resident.

“Kodiak left a powerful impression on me during my brief tenure two years ago,” Barnwell said. “When I finally had an opportunity to commit to returning, I could not resist the opportunity to take the leap.”

Before returning to the Emerald Isle, Barnwell served as the editor and reporter of the Mojave Desert News, a weekly based in California City, California. He covered everything from city government and education to local businesses and youth sports.

Prior to the Mojave Desert News, Barnwell was the community editor Daily Independent, a newspaper covering Ridgecrest, California. He was responsible for covering education, community events, water issues and occasionally breaking news.

Barnwell graduated from San Jose State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism.
