Commercial salmon fishing periods have been extended until 6 p.m. Tuesday for all of the Northwest and Northeast Kodiak Districts, as well as in parts of the Afognak, Alitak, Southwest Kodiak and Eastside Kodiak Districts, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game has announced.

The four-day extension affects the following sections in the Alitak District: Cape Alitak, Humpy Deadman, Alitak Bay, Moser Bay and Olga Bay.

It applies to the following sections in the Eastside Kodiak District: Sitkalidak, Two-Headed and Seven Rivers and to the Outer Ayakulik Section of the Southwest Kodiak District.

Finally, the commercial salmon fishing in the Southwest Afognak Section of the Afognak District will be extended by four days, but commercial salmon fishing in Duck Bay will be extended only until 6 p.m. Saturday.

As of Wednesday, the estimated harvest of pink, coho and chum salmon have fallen hundreds of thousands of pounds short of their estimated harvests, according to the Department of Fish and Game.
