Carl Michael Smith

Carl Michael Smith, 55, passed away quietly and comfortably at his home in Palmer, Alaska, on Dec. 12, 2020.

Carl was born on Feb. 4, 1965, in Kodiak, Alaska, to Carl and Georgia Smith of Ouzinkie, Alaska, his boyhood home. Carl married Brenda Kennealy from Ottawa, Illinois, on Dec. 18, 1993, and together they raised their three sons (Michael, Joel and Daniel) in Kodiak where Carl was a teacher for 25 years at Peterson Elementary and East Elementary.

Carl’s faith was the defining part of his life. Carl was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in 2015. Despite the prognosis, God’s amazing grace kept Carl nearly pain-free during the first five years. He and his wife attended Matanuska Assembly of God in Palmer and Ocean’s United in Kodiak.

Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors, each of which was shared to his sons. He played the guitar and was quite good at drawing, which developed into Carl’s Creations, crafting of small wood products.

His family was priority number one, and he made many sacrifices to provide the love and care he felt they needed and deserved. Carl was a wonderful husband and father. He is greatly missed.

Carl is survived by his wife Brenda; his sons Michael, Joel and Daniel; his parents Carl and Georgia Smith; and his brother Kevin.
