KCS students win recitation awards

The recitation program is intended to help students engage deeply with a passage of writing, to learn public speaking skills, and to grow in poise and ability.

At KCS, we have discovered how richly rewarding it is to see a student’s progress as he/she grows each year selecting, memorizing, interpreting and performing a piece of literature. Through this process, students gain literary understanding and confidence in public speaking. This experience will serve each student well as he/she grows. 

Most importantly, recitations could easily reinforce gifts given to our students that would help them boldly proclaim the Gospel to the world. We hope that the process and performance of a recitation will inspire a student’s love for God, for language, for narrative, for excellent literature, and for one another.

The students presented their pieces in front of their families, the rest of the school, along with judges. The winners are listed below by grade, name and piece title:

• Fourth Grade: Cole Chelmo, Saw My Teacher on Saturday

• Seventh Grade: Sariah Panthin, Excerpts from JFK’s Inaugural Speech

• Eighth Grade: Riley Rohrer, Big John
