Kodiak’s Ian Rocheleau competes in a swimming meet against Eagle River on Oct. 9 at the Kodiak Community Swimming Pool.

Not getting to swim the final two events of the Palmer Invitational didn’t keep the Kodiak boys from snagging a team title.

Behind six first-place finishes, the Bears piled up 77 points to claim the Palmer Invitational title on Saturday at Palmer High School.

Kodiak didn’t swim the final two events — the 100-yard breaststroke and the 400 freestyle relay — as the team left early to get back to The Rock before Sunday’s storm.

Kodiak seniors Ian Rocheleau and Jackson Krug were both triple-winners. Rocheleau won the 200 individual medley (2 minutes, 1.77 seconds), the 100 backstroke (54.21) and teamed with Nick Carver, Jake Sarnowski and James Berestoff to win the 200 medley relay (1:43.18).

Krug took the 100 freestyle (48.96), the 200 freestyle (1:48.20) and teamed with Sarnowski, Max Jensen and Carver to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:33.08).

Carver had the top 100 breaststroke preliminary time (1:02.81), while the 400 freestyle was seeded first in 3:29.57.

Freshman Amaya Rocheleau picked up a pair of wins to lead the Kodiak girls to a fourth-place finish with 34 points. Colony grabbed the team title with 120 points.

Amaya Rocheleau won the 50 freestyle (25.53) and the 100 backstroke (1:01.39). She joined forces with Lia Jones, Emily Neo and Alison Narog to place second in the 200 medley relay (1:57.94).

Kodiak is idle this weekend before competing at the Region III Championships that begins Oct. 28 in Wasilla.
