Senior life

Games of all types are played each Wednesday afternoon at the senior center. Regular players tackle Scrabble, Dominos, Upwords and Mexican Train. Come join the fun right after lunch each Wednesday. (Pat Branson photo)

The Aging Mastery Program, which is all about making and maintaining meaningful changes in health behaviors, financial well-being and enrichment in later life, is a growing movement in Kodiak.

AMP is a program of the National Council on Aging (NCOA) and is being sponsored in our community by the Senior Citizens of Kodiak through an NCOA grant. Ten-week sessions for people 55 and older focusing on navigating longer lives, exercising body and mind, sleep, healthy eating, medication management, financial fitness, advance planning healthy relationship, falls prevention and community engagement are scheduled starting Sept. 14 at Kodiak Public Library from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and again at the Senior Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 17. Local experts are invited to participate in the classes, which will have lots of participation, rewards and refreshments. Classes are limited to 15 people each and the Senior Center classes now have a wait list; the Monday evening classes are still open to register.
