Kodiak’s Micah Fields cross the finish line at the George Plumley Invite Saturday at Palmer High School. 

In the first big test of the season, Micah Fields paced the Kodiak boys’ cross country team to a fifth-place showing Saturday at the George Plumley Invitational at Palmer High School. 

The senior Fields finished fifth with a 5-kilometer time of 17 minutes, 05.98 seconds. Kodiak finished fifth in the team standings with 177 points. Division II Grace Christian topped the field with 63 points.  

West Valley’s Daniel Abramowicz, who produced the ninth-fastest time at Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park last week, won with a time of 16:18.76. He finished 12 seconds ahead of runner-up and teammate Shane Fisher. 

West Anchorage and West Valley both finished with 120 points to finish in the top 3. 

Kodiak sophomore Max Robinson placed 23rd with a 17:32.89. 

Freshman Ayla Baker led the Kodiak girls by placing 49th in 21:46.91. The Bears were 15th in the team standings with 363 points. 

Juneau won the team title with 71 points, while Chugiak’s Campbell Peterson crossed the line first in 19:39.03. 

 

ACS 3K CHALLENGE

Bengt Anderson and Robinson led the Kodiak boys to victory in the freshmen/sophomore race at the ACS 3K Challenge Friday in Anchorage. 

Anderson covered the 3-kilometer course in 10:10.1 to finish second, while Robinson was third in 10:23.9. Kodiak had 32 points — 30 points ahead of runner-up Kenai. 

Baker scored the Kodiak girls’ best finish, placing sixth in the freshmen/sophomore race in 12:46.4. 

 

THIS WEEK

Kodiak hosts Chugiak and Colony on Friday in the final regular-season meet at Fort Abercrombie.
