Two new candidates have signed up to run for a seat on the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly, joining incumbent Dave Kaplan and Larry LeDoux who both signed up last week.

Incumbent Tuck Bonney has filed to run again, and Brenda Schwantes has filed as well. It’s now a four-way race for three seats.

For the school board, Jeffrey Stewart filed to run for the seat he was appointed to in late July, the only candidate so far to sign up for the two seats up for re-election.

There are still no candidates signed up for one seat on the Bay View Road Service Area Board, two seats on the Fire Protection Area No. 1 Board, one seat on the Monashka Bay Road Service Area Board, three seats on the Service Area No. 1 Board, and three seats on the Womens Bay Service Area Board.

Interested candidates have just a few days left. The filing period ends on Aug. 15 at 4:30 p.m.

The election is Oct. 7.
