To the editor:

Borough Assembly members Carol Austerman and Chris Lynch sponsor and co-sponsor a request for a public comment ordinance (KDM July 17, 2014). Let me see if I remember correctly. Chris Lynch was awarded contracts worth tens of thousands of borough resident taxpayer dollars while holding a seat on the assembly.

We then had to spend untold amounts on a ballot measure to prevent any future assembly member from this sort of conduct.

Carol Austerman stated to a packed assembly chamber of more than 70 residents whom opposed the roll carts in our neighborhoods, “I don’t think the people here tonight are a fair representation of what’s best for Kodiak.”

Remember the photo in the Kodiak Daily Mirror of the dead bear swinging so majestically from the bucket loader? And now we have bears with bullet holes wandering around our homes where our children play and weekly police blotter items with bear and human encounters around town.

I understand Mrs. Austerman wants to represent me at the state level. Roberts Rules of order and the constitution aside, I think it might be hard for her to take the concerns of our community to the capitol if we the people who may disagree with her are promptly told you must shut up and sit down.

Leonard Roberson, Kodiak
