Alaska State Troopers reported that he had been part of a hiking party but got separated from the group when he fell.
“We got a call a little before 2 p.m. in the afternoon on July 5 about a 14-year-old boy that fell off a cliff in an area that is locally referred to as White Sands Beach. The boy was apparently out camping with family and friends,” Megan Peters, AST spokesperson, told the Mirror.
The youth “was off hiking with some of the other juveniles. He got separated from them and then tried to traverse the cliff by himself and ended up falling some 20 feet and landed on some rocks,” Peters added.
By the time troopers arrived emergency medical technicians were already working on the injured youth, Peters added. He was subsequently transported to Anchorage for help in the injuries he sustained.
AST did not comment on the injuries but a series of Facebook comments quoting the boy’s family noted that that his injuries included a fractured skull and several other breaks. Hospital was also observing a brain bleed. He was reportedly in stable condition with good vital signs, however.
A prayer chain on Facebook also noted that his condition was improving.
