The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities scheduled its next Marine Transportation Advisory Board to discuss the Tustumena replacement ferry for June 24 at the Kodiak Harbor Convention Center.

MTAB said in a statement other Kodiak region marine transportation updates will also be given at the meeting.

The DOT has said it hopes to have a design study report this fall. The final design is scheduled for summer 2015. Naval engineering firm Glosten and Associates of Seattle, Washington, is developing the plans to replace the nearly 50-year-old ferry.

The most robust preliminary specifications call for the replacement Tustumena with a length of 325 feet, a capacity of 250 passengers and 52 vehicles, and a projected cruise speed of 15 knots.

Board members include Chair Robert Venables, Vice Chair Joshua Howes, Cathie Roemmich, Shirley Marquardt, Gerald Hope, Daniel Kelly, Maxine Thompson, Ron Bressette, Tim Joyce, Pat Branson and Richard Knapp.

The meeting will be held in the Katurwic Room at 9 a.m. The teleconference call-in number is 800-315-6338, conference code 39051.
