The University of Oregon senior qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Championships last week at the West Preliminary meet in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Dunbar will be competing in the 5,000- and 10,000-meters when the NCAA Championships begin June 11 in his home stadium in Eugene, Oregon.
The Kodiak High School 2009 graduate finished eighth in the 10,000 with a time of 29 minutes, 35.59 seconds — 30 seconds behind winner Kennedy Kithuka of Texas Tech University.
Dunbar finished fifth in his 5,000 heat with a time of 13:48.64.
In 2012, Dunbar was an All-American in the 5,000 meters, finishing sixth at the NCAA Championships. He missed the 2013 track season due to injuries.
Dunbar was a multiple state champion cross country and track runner during his time in Kodiak. He also is the only Alaskan to run a mile under four minutes.
