Kodiak’s junior varsity won the Houston Baseball JV Invitational Tournament Saturday in Houston.

Behind a complete-game performance from pitcher Sam Bennett, the Bears beat Palmer, 15-7, in the championship game.

Bennett struck out nine, allowed two hits and gave up seven runs — three earned — in six innings.

The sophomore helped himself by hitting two triples, a single and collecting two RBIs. He was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

Joe Schactler drove in four runs and hit three singles, while Morgan Moir had a double, a single and two RBIs.

In Friday pool play, Kodiak beat Hutchinson, 2-0, Kenai, 8-1 and lost to Palmer, 6-1.

Catcher Aaron Hocum was voted to the all-tournament team.
