Orange, red and yellow dotted the bare concrete of the Baranof Park Ice Rink on Saturday as the Kodiak Humane Society hosted its annual flower basket sale. The event is one of the society's annual fundraisers to benefit the Kodiak Animal Shelter, and it proved popular on a sunny weekend.

Of the 150 flower baskets set out at 8 a.m., fewer than a half-dozen remained three hours later.

Flower lovers need not fret if they missed out — the Kodiak Garden Club's annual flower sale will restore potted color to the ice rink starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
