BARANOF PARK ICE RINK

For more information on the following ice rink programs and activities, contact Ice rink manager Courtney Webster at 481-8671.

Broomball is a game similar to ice hockey in which the players, not wearing skates, use broomsticks instead of hockey sticks to shoot a small, soft volleyball-size ball into the opponent’s goal. For those who don’t know how to skate and would like to experience the ice, broomball is your sport. Broomball is a popular college intramural sport, it’s a great cardiovascular exercise, and it’s fun. Open to all ages and great for families. Broomball will be held Fridays 6 to 7 p.m. Broomsticks will be provided.

Novice coed hockey will be held Saturdays 3:30 to 6 p.m. This time is for players who are interested in trying hockey in a beginner setting.

Stick and Puck will be held Monday, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. This is a time for all ages and skill levels to hone their skills. No games allowed. Players can focus on game fundamentals without the pressure of game situations.

Youth Hockey League: League play begins its second week and runs through March. Games are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Mites are 4- to 7-year-olds; Squirts are 8- to 11-year-olds; and Peewees are 12- to 15-year-olds. Gear requirements include a helmet with cage, mouth guard, shin pads, hockey gloves, hockey skates, hockey stick and athletic cup. Players are encouraged to also wear elbow pads, shoulder pads and hockey pants. Following is next week’s game schedule. Games start at the time shown. Players need to come as much as one-half hour early to be ready for play.
