LITTLE LEAGUE

Registration for baseball and softball will be held through March 31, at the Teen Center (next to the post office). Any player who signs up after March 31 will be considered a late registrant and will be assessed a $5 late fee and placed in a players’ pool to be assigned to a team only if needed. Those playing in Kodiak Little League for the first time need to present a certified birth certificate at registration.

Players who are 5 through 15 years old are eligible to participate. Baseball age is determined by the age of the player on April 30, 2011; softball age is the age of the player on Dec. 31. Players are distributed among teams in divisions defined by age and ability. The youngest players begin in tee-ball and progress through machine-pitch minors, player-pitch minors, majors and juniors baseball. The season will begin in April or May, depending on division, and will wrap up before July.

Softball team selection dates and times are as follows: Saturday, April 9, middle school gym: girls age 8, 10 to 11 a.m.; girls ages 9 and 10, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; girls ages 11 and 12, 1 to 2 p.m.; girls ages 13 through 15, 2 to 3:30 p.m.

Girls age 7 with one year of tee ball interested in playing machine-pitch softball, attend ages 8 and 9 session.

Baseball team selection dates and times are as follows:

Saturday, April 9, high school gym: boys age 11, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; boys age 12, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; boys age 13, 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; boys ages 14 and 15, 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, April 16, high school gym: boys age 7, 10 to 11 a.m.; boys age 8, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; boys age 9, 1 to 2 p.m.; boys age 10, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Boys age 6 with one year of tee-ball interested in playing machine-pitch baseball, attend age 7 session.

Tee-ball: Coaches will contact players around the middle of May.

BARANOF PARK ICE RINK

Skills competition will be held Saturday, March 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. Come and showcase your talent. Registration is free. Competition will feature six categories, which include an obstacle course, fastest skater, most accurate shooter, hardest slap shot and a goalie shootout. All ages welcome. Medals awarded to top finishers.

HIGH SCHOOL GYM

Indoor soccer is in the high school gym Sundays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Volleyball: Saturday, March 12 and 19, 7:30 to 10 p.m.

CITY LEAGUE VOLLEYBALL

No games over spring break, Monday through Wednesday, March 14 through 16.

POWER BASKETBALL

Morning powerball is on Sunday, from 7 to 9 a.m., and Wednesday and Friday, from 6 to 7:30 a.m., in the high school gym. Matt Perez and Mark Galindo are in charge.

Powerball is for adult players who have played organized ball and for high school players aspiring to play varsity ball.

TEEN CENTER

General hours are Monday through Thursday noon to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday noon to 11 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 8 p.m.

TEEN CENTER COMMUNITY USE

Toddler play group meets every Friday, from 10 to 11 a.m. This is an opportunity for 2- to 4-year-olds to engage in gross-motor free play and to interact with other children. Bring your own balls and riding toys. Jennifer Waltenbaugh is in charge. Contact number is 486-3917.

Christening/birthday party: Teen Center is reserved for a christening/first birthday party on Saturday, March 12, from 6 to 10 p.m. This is a private party and admission is by invitation only. Contact is Fretzie Mendoza, 512-1795.

Zumba Fitness: Teen Center is reserved for a Zumba Fitness on Saturday, March 19, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program. Classes are $7 to drop in or purchase a 10-class punch card for just $50. Contact is Winona, 942-4194.

RACQUETBALL

Early riser racquetball: Saturday at the Teen Center from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8 a.m. For information call Craig Johnson at 486-4826.

General court hours: Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday 1 to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

SPRING BREAK

3-ON-3 BASKETBALL

A spring break 3-on-3 basketball tournament will be held at the middle school gym starting Monday, March 14, and concluding Wednesday, March 16. Sign up at the Teen Center. Seventh grade and under teams will play from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by eighth through twelfth grade teams from 2 to 5 p.m. There will be girls’ divisions and boys’ divisions in the following categories: fifthgrade and under, sixth grade and under, seventh grade and under, eighth and ninth grade, high school A division, and high school open division. Each team may have three or four players. There is no charge for this event and the winning teams in each division will receive an award. YOUTH SOCCER

Spring Soccer League will begin Monday, March 28, and will run through May 7. There will be five age divisions: Micro I (kindergarten and first grade), Micro II (second and third grades), Juniors (fourth and fifth grades), Strikers (sixth through eighth grades), and Varsity (ninth grade and up). Monday and Wednesday evenings will be for Juniors and Strikers. Tuesday and Thursday evenings will be for Micro I, Micro II, and Varsity. Game days and times may change depending upon coaches’ requests.

Player testing and team selection will be held at Woody Way Field (or at the National Guard Armory, if weather is bad) as follows: Monday, March 21, Micro I boys 5:30-7 p.m. and Junior boys 7-8:30 p.m.; Tuesday, March 22, Micro I girls 5:30-6:45 p.m., Micro II girls 6:30-7:45 p.m. and Junior girls 7:30-8:45 p.m.; Wednesday, March 23, Micro II boys 5:30-7 and Varsity boys and girls 7-8:30 p.m.; Thursday, March 24, Striker Girls 5:30-7 p.m. and Strikers boys 7-8:30.

All games will be played on weekday evenings with Saturdays as a practice and makeup-game day. First week games and practices will be held at Woody Way Field. If weather and field conditions are too bad to play, games and practices will be canceled. Teams will be formed, six to 10 players on a side, and coaches will be recruited so that each team has its own coach. There should be a minimum of three teams in each division. Registration after March 21 will be $25.
