CITY LEAGUE BASKETBALL

Games begin Nov. 8. Players who want to play can obtain team forms and individual player forms online at the City of Kodiak Parks and Recreation website. These forms can be completed, printed and submitted to the Teen Center, with or without payment, beginning Monday, Nov. 1. Payment will be due prior to the Christmas Tournament.

In November, teams can arrange for a practice time after they’ve paid their team sponsor fee. Practices are available on Sunday afternoons and evenings at North Star, the middle school and Main Elementary.

CITY LEAGUE VOLLEYBALL

The high school gym will be open this week on Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 10 p.m. for open practice. League play will begin as soon as enough teams have signed up. To sign up for league play, complete a team form, available at the gym or online at the City of Kodiak Parks and Recreation website, and submit to Dale Lewis, either at the gym or at his office in the swimming pool.

All games and practices are at North Star Elementary gym. The first games listed are on the east court (closest to the entrance) and the second games listed are on the west court (farthest from the entrance).

AQUATICS

Alaska School Activities Association Region III Swim Meet will be hosted by Kodiak this week, and the swimming pool will be closed for public swimming beginning Wednesday afternoon, after noon lap, through Saturday, Oct. 30. The following high schools will be represented: Colony, Cordova, Homer, Kenai, Kodiak, Palmer, Seward, Skyview, Soldotna, Valdez, Unalaska and Wasilla.

HIGH SCHOOL GYM

Youth Basketball Open Gym: Sunday, 3:30 to 5 p.m. Youth Basketball Open Gym is for boys and girls 15 and younger, Steve McKechnie is in charge. There is no admission fee.

Indoor Soccer is in the high school gym Sundays and Thursdays from 7:30 to 10 p.m.

Volleyball: Tuesday, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Women’s Basketball is Monday at East Elementary, from 7 to 9 p.m., throughout the winter. Admission is free and Jo Swartout is in charge.

POWER BASKETBALL

Morning Powerball is on Sunday from 7 to 9 a.m. and Wednesday and Friday from 6 to 7:30 a.m. in the high school gym. Matt Perez and Paul Chervanak are in charge.

Evening Powerball is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 to 10 p.m. in the high school gym. Tom Slagle is in charge.

Powerball is for adult players who have played organized ball and for high school players aspiring to play varsity ball.

ROLLER HOCKEY

The last session of roller hockey will be this Sunday from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Baranof Park ice rink. Men and women over 15 years old welcome. The rink will remain open for basketball and tennis until the end of October. Beginning Monday, Nov. 1, the sport-court flooring will be taken up and the surface will be cleaned up in preparation for making ice. The ice rink will open Monday, Nov. 15. BARANOF PARK ICE RINK

Baranof Park ice rink opens Nov. 15. The ice skating schedule includes free skating times for public skating, hockey and broomball. There are also figure skating and hockey clinics held during Christmas and spring breaks. A youth hockey league runs from mid January through March. And a learn to skate program is held in two five-week sessions beginning in early January. For more information contact Ice Rink Manager Courtney Webster at 481-3881.

TEEN CENTER

Teen Dances will be held Friday, Oct. 22, from 7 p.m. to midnight. A middle school-age dance will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. and a high school-age dance will be held from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. These dances are open to all middle school and high school students. Admission is $5. Dance rules are that once a person leaves the dance, re-entry will not be allowed and no one is allowed to enter after 11 p.m. DJ is Marc Ignacio of Island Style Entertainment. Chaperones are Chris Pagsolingan, Ben Achas, Renato Martinez, Steven Hamo, Dennis Javier, Cindy Aquino and Kari Sherod.

General Hours are Monday through Thursday noon to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday noon to 11 p.m., and Sunday 1 to 8 p.m.

TEEN CENTER COMMUNITY USE

Teen Center Auditorium Rental Policy: Individuals or groups may rent the Teen Center Auditorium at any time providing they completely fill out and return a facilities use form at least one week in advance of the rental period. A $100 cleaning deposit is collected at time of booking. Groups are charged $25 per hour for private use and are allowed a one-hour setup prior to the event. Groups are responsible for cleaning up after the event and are charged $15 per hour for additional cleaning if required. No smoking, alcohol or drug use is allowed in or around the Teen Center.

RACQUETBALL

Early Riser Racquetball: Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Teen Center, from 6:30 to 8 a.m. For information call Craig Johnson at 486-4826.

Challenge night is on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. for Men’s A and Open players and Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. for Men’s C Division and up. Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. is challenge night for women. Cost is $2 per player. Every player plays every other player once.

General court hours: Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday 1 to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
