Kodiak’s major all-star baseball team defeated Homer 8-4 in a District I South pool play Little League game Thursday evening in Soldotna.

Kodiak finishes pool play with a 2-2 record and earns a wild card berth into the District I finals in Anchorage.

Rex Matautia pitched five innings to earn the win. Luke James pitched the sixth to close the game.

"The kids wanted this game," Kodiak coach Les James said. "They hit well, tightened their defense and went out and earned the No. 1 wild card spot for the district finals. Our coaches and fans were proud of their effort."

Zac Crane collected three singles, while Trenton Foxworthy had two singles.

Kodiak opens finals play against Far North, 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
