Kodiak’s major all-star team opened District I South pool play with a 10-2 loss to Soldotna in a Little League baseball game Sunday evening in Soldotna.

“Even though the kids didn’t really start playing ball until the third inning because of nerves, they ended on a positive note with solid defense and the team wanting to play Soldotna again on Wednesday,” Kodiak coach Les James wrote in an email.

Kodiak, which trailed 10-0 after the third inning, scored both of its runs in the fourth.

Trenton Foxworthy, who walked, scored on a Luke James double. James later scored on a bunt by Dustin Swearingin.

Les James praised Sage Glamann, Foxworthy, Louis Rocheleau and Rex Matautia for their defense.

Giavanni Martinez started on the mound and pitched 38 pitches.

The top team in the three-team pool play advances to the Distrcit I finals in Anchorage.

Soldotna (2-0) also beat Homer on Saturday 10-0.

Today, Kodiak plays Homer (0-1) at 6 p.m.
