Both of Kodiak’s basketball squads open the Northern Lights Conference Championships with Friday matinees.

The No. 1 Kodiak girls (22-0) play at 1:30 p.m. Friday against either No. 4 Wasilla or No. 5 Palmer in a semifinal game at Colony High School.

The Kodiak boys (14-9) finished second in the conference and will play a semifinal game at 3:15 p.m. Friday against either No. 3 Wasilla or No. 6 Kenai.

All semifinal winners clinch a berth to the state tournament and a spot in Saturday’s championship games.

The conference tournament begins Thursday with first-round games.

On the girls side, Palmer plays Wasilla at 3 p.m., while No. 3 Colony faces No. 6 Kenai at 6:30 p.m.

No. 2 Soldotna plays the Colony/Wasilla winner in a 5 p.m. semifinal Friday.

In the boys bracket, Wasilla plays Kenai at 4:45 p.m., while No. 4 Soldotna plays No. 5 Palmer at 8:15 p.m.

Conference champion Colony plays the Soldotna/Palmer winner in a 6:45 p.m. semifinal Friday.
