Senior Bella Goble was a double-winner for Kodiak tennis in a meet against Wasilla over the weekend in Anchorage.

Goble won in girls singles 6-1, 6-2 and teamed with Luanne Velasco to take girls doubles 6-0, 6-4.

Kodiak also picked up a victory in mixed doubles from Hiromi Kageyama and Ila Abad 0-6, 7-5, (10-7).

In boys singles, Josh Barnett lost 6-2, 6-2 and Max Pyles fell 6-1, 7-5 (10-8).

Kodiak Steve Johnston said Wasilla has the top two boys singles players in Region III.

The coach was proud of how Pyles battled back after a first set loss to force a tiebreaker set.

“It was a tremendous comeback,” Johnston said.

Kodiak also competed at the Anchorage Invitational. Johnston said his players were inserted into the junior varsity portion of the tournament and won every match.

Kodiak will look to defend its regional title at the Region III Championships Sept. 23-24 in Anchorage.
