Two weeks after hosting the Northern Lights Conference volleyball championships, Kodiak is home to another regional tournament.

The mix-six volleyball Denali Conference Championships will take place at Kodiak High School starting Friday. The four-team, double-elimination tournament concludes Saturday.

Defending champion Nikolaevsk plays Fort Yukon at 3:15 p.m. Host Kodiak ESS takes on Seldovia at 5 p.m. The winners collide in a 6:45 p.m., while the losers drop to an 8:30 a.m. match on Saturday.

The championship game is slated for 12:30 p.m. The top two teams qualify for the mix-six state tournament that begins Nov. 30 at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

Kodiak ESS — a team comprised of Kodiak Island Borough School District rural students — lost to Nikolaevsk in last year’s championship match.

The Ravens went on to finish seventh at their first state tournament. Nikolaevsk placed fifth.
