Dimond Post 21 slugged a pair of home runs and cruised to a 12-2 nonleague victory over Kodiak Post 17 in an American Legion baseball game Thursday at Baranof Field.
Matt Thompson and Eric Galosich each hit solo shots as the Lynx generated nine hits off four Kodiak hurlers during the seven-inning contest.
Dimond went up 5-0 before Kodiak cracked the board for the first time in the second inning of its season opener.
Dylan Wynn led off the frame with a booming double to center and scored on a Micah Arndt liner to right field.
Khyler Kane and Gareth Jones followed with singles to load the bases with no outs, but the Bears could only squeeze in one more run on an Anders Hocum single.
Starting pitcher Galosich and relievers Adam Boyce and Thompson held the Bears without a hit through the final five frames.
Galoscich and Boyce retired 10 straight hitters before Nathan James worked a walk with one out in the sixth.
Jason Foxworthy pitched three innings in relief, allowing five runs on six hits while walking three.
Olson relieved Foxworthy in the fourth and allowed five runs on three hits while striking out one and walking six in 3 2/3 innings.
Kodiak and Dimond play a league doubleheader today at Baranof Field. The first game starts at 4 p.m., followed by the nightcap at 7 p.m.
The series concludes with a nonleague game at noon Saturday.
