Emily Larson defeated Bryan Larson, her father, to win the Independence Open bowling tournament over the weekend at Tropic Lanes.

The finals of the first Independence Open bowling tournament was a family affair.

And it was Emily Larson who won family bragging rights.

Emily Larson defeated her father, Bryan Larson, in the finals of the two-day tournament with a handicap score of 189-179 Sunday at Tropic Lanes.

Bryan Larson avenged an earlier loss to his daughter by forcing in “if-necessary” match with a 209-143 win in the first championship game.

Emily Larson, the No. 5 seed after five games of qualifying, survived the 16-person double-elimination bracket by defeating Debbie Olson (196-181), Ray Basuel (173-126) and Stefan Macahilas (173-166).

Jeff Kiefer was the top qualifier, sporting a 215.2 average for five games. He recorded the tournament’s highest game, a 256.

The tournament was bowled on a sport oil pattern. Another tournament is scheduled for July 29 at Tropic Lanes.
