A pair of Kodiak youth bowlers picked up $250 scholarships at the Youth Pepsi Tournament on April 17 in Wasilla.

Jacque Bormuel and Elianah Michael both finished third in their respective brackets to cash in.

Bormuel advanced to the 12-and-under boys semifinals by placing fourth in the six-game qualifying round with a total of 804 pins.

He placed third in the three-game semifinals with a pinfall of 468 to advance to the stepladder finals.

Bormuel won his first match, but fell in his next match by 32 pins to finish third.

Michael was in the top position after the qualifying round in the 15-and-under division with a score of 876.

She dropped to fourth after the semifinal round with 419 pins.

She also won her first stepladder match and lost in her second by 23 pins.

Levi Bunting qualified for the 15-and-under boys semifinals, but missed advancing to the stepladder finals by 26 pins.

Jaleshia Taboy, Alexandria Gier, Brandon Jimenez, Joshua Morin and Benjamin Stahlhut also competed for Kodiak.

Kodiak’s youth bowlers also participated in the youth state tournament, but results were not available.
