The Kodiak and Colony tennis teams pose for a photo after being named co-champions at the Region III Tennis Championships, Tuesday in Anchorage. 

With a pair of champions, Kodiak shared the team title at the Region III Tennis Championships with Colony. 

Kodiak was the outright champion last year, while Colony won the innagural Region III tournament in 2015. 

After being runner-up in boys’ singles the last two tournaments, junior Fisher Gandel claimed his first individual title with a 6-3, 7-5 win over his Colony opponent in the finals on Tuesday in Anchorage.  

Alisha Santamaria and Luanne Velasco wiped out Colony 6-1, 6-1 in the girls’ doubles championship match. 

Santamaria won a regional title last year in mixed doubles. 

Kodiak had a pair of runner-up finishes. 

Chelsey Abad and Hunter Blair fell to Colony, 6-0, 6-2, in the mixed doubles championship match, while Tiger Oka and Max Pyles were defeated by Palmer, 6-1, 6-3, in the boys’ doubles title match. 

Kodiak is sending seven to the state championships, as the top two placers in each event qualified for the Oct. 6 tournament in Anchorage.
