Kodiak fell just short of reaching its goal of finishing the regular season above .500.

The Bears dropped a pair of games to Northern Lights Conference foe Colony over the weekend to finish at 9-10, 3-7 in the NLC.

On Friday, Kodiak received 16 points from senior Joanna Garcia, but fell 39-35 at Colony High School.

On Saturday, the Knights used a 9-0 game-ending run to take control of a back-and-forth game to produce a 41-34 win.

The losses should give Kodiak the North Division’s No. 4 seed and a game against Kenai, the South’s top seed, in Thursday’s first round of the NLC Tournament. The official bracket gets released today.

The top three teams in the NLC Tournament earn a trip to Anchorage for the 4A state tournament. Kodiak has qualified for state the last two years by placing third at the NLC Tournament.

On Saturday, Kodiak overcame a 15-5 first quarter deficit to tie the game in the third quarter. The Bears held a lead until the late stages of the fourth quarter.

Colony finishes NLC as the North’s second seed with an 8-2 record. Wasilla is the North’s top seed at 10-0.
