It’s safe to say that Kodiak’s junior all-star baseball team is finding its stride on offense.

Kodiak has outscored its opposition 56-5 in its first two games of District I Little League East pool play.

“We are cruising right so far,” Kodiak coach Mel LeVan said.

On Wednesday, Kodiak downed Homer 21-1 and on Tuesday, beat Anchorage-West/City View 25-4. Both games were in Anchorage.

Against Homer, Kodiak scored 21 runs on 21 hits.

“We were just blasting it to the outfield,” LeVan said.

Myles Wilson and Aaron Polasky each had three hits, while Melvin Javier, Max Mutch and Ryan Bezona all had two hits.

Pitchers Jakob Arnold, Sam Bennett and Ryan Bezona limited Homer to just one hit.

Against Anchorage-West/City View, Arnold collected four hits and five RBI, while Javier and Mutch each had three hits.

Polasky, Pickett, and Jon LeVan all saw time on the bump.

Kodiak (2-0) needs to win one of its final two games to be one of the three East pool teams to advance to the District I finals that begin July 16.

Today, Kodiak plays Knik (1-1) at 7 p.m.

For the second time in four days, Kodiak’s major all-star baseball team fell to Soldotna.

This time Kodiak absorbed a 13-3 loss Wednesday evening in a District I Little League South pool play game in Soldotna.

“We beat ourselves by not making routine plays on ground balls and fly balls,” Kodiak coach Les James wrote in an email.

Kodiak (1-2) trailed 5-3 after the second inning, but then gave up eight runs the next two innings.

TJ Foxworthy collected two hits, while Luke James added a double. Kavik Eads and Zac Crane each had singles.

Les James praised the play of second baseman Shaun Walton.

Walton also started on the mound before giving way to Giovanni Martinez and Luke James.

With the win Soldotna (4-0) claims the South pool’s only seed into the District I finals in Anchorage.

Kodiak, which plays Homer at 6 p.m. today, still has a chance at earning a wildcard spot in the District I finals.
