Kodiak overcame a two-set deficit, but fell 3-2 to Homer in a season-opening nonconference volleyball match Thursday at Homer. 

The Bears dropped the first two sets by scores of 25-18, before rallying to win the next two sets —  to force a fifth set. Homer took the fifth set 15-9. 

Senior Katrina Pruitt paced Kodiak with eight kills and six blocks. Freshman Kristen Carstens added eight kills, while Imee Pagsolingan added six kills. 

Enrica Villanueva dished out 20 assists and had four service aces, while Jasmine Levia and Joie  Macariola each chipped in 20 digs. 

Kodiak’s junior varsity won 25-17, 25-17, while the Bears’ C-team lost 25-15, 21-25, 12-15. 

Kodiak begins Northern Lights Conference play today at Soldotna. The two teams play again on Saturday.
