Dropping temperatures and less daylight means the Alaska prep football season is coming to a close.

The final game of the season will be played Saturday at the Anchorage Football Stadium when Service and South collide in the Division I state championship game.

Soldotna and Houston both claimed titles last week — the Stars grabbing the Division II banner, while Houston hoisted the Division III trophy.

I picked both Soldotna and Houston to win, while I was 50% in my Division I semifinal picks. I enter the final weekend of this column sporting an overall record of 73-36.

SERVICE (8-2) VS. SOUTH (6-4)

South and Service last faced each other in a state championship game in 2012, which went in favor of the Wolverines.

Service, which last won a state title in 2011, defeated South 37-20 during the regular season ... COUGARS 45, WOLVERINES 28.
