Kodiak High School’s swim team is at the Soldotna Pentathlon Friday.

The Pentathlon consists of 50 yards of each stroke, plus a 100-yard individual medley. Times are added and a winner is declared.

Kodiak Coach John Lindquist figures his tandem of Jori Lindquist, Tahna Lindquist and Ila Hughes will battle for the top spot.

“I set a goal for them to get 1-2-3,” John said. “There are some kids out there who will push them.”

Jori, the 2010 Pentathlon girls champion, placed second last year, while Tahna was third and Hughes fourth.

Kodiak’s girls have won the team title the past three years, and are poised to win again this year.

Last year, Kodiak’s boys finished second to Soldotna by a point, while the Bears’ Nando Macinko won the individual title.

“We haven’t won that in a long time, but we have some boys who can do all four strokes really well,” Lindquist said.

Lindquist tabbed sophomore Dyton Schauff and freshman Nick Lincoln as Kodiak’s best chance to earn an individual title.

“They set up real well for this,” Lindquist said.

On Saturday, Kodiak competes in a tri-meet in Soldotna.
