The Kodiak Emerging Small Schools’ boys basketball season ended Thursday in Soldotna.

The Ravens lost 59-46 to Ninilchik in a 1A Peninsula Conference loser-out game at Skyview High School.

On Wednesday evening, ESS dropped a 70-44 decision to top-seeded Nikolaevsk.

Kodiak finished the season with a 3-7 record.

Despite bowing out of the tournament, coach Russ Scotter was pleased with the effort.

“They have taken some giant leaps,” Scotter said. “They earned a lot of respect from other teams, coaches and fans. That is something we can take home and be pretty proud of.”

Kodiak ESS led Thursday’s game by one-point at halftime, but were outscored 13-4 in the third quarter and never led the rest of the game.

“They took control, and we got behind and couldn’t catch back up,” Scotter said.

Cody Robustellini paced ESS with 17 points, while Wade Bartelson added 11 points.

Bartelson scored 20 points in Wednesday’s loss to Nikolaevsk.

Seniors Emma Nelson, Chase Shugak, Justin Phillips and Brian Koozaata played their final games for ESS.

“Each one of those kids have strengths that really helped fill the whole team out,” Scotter said.

Kodiak went 1-2 in the tournament. Wednesday morning’s victory over Lumen Christi was the first for ESS at a regional tournament.

“It is exciting to see these young kids develop as each of these games have gone on,” Scotter said.
