Kodiak’s junior Little League all-star team fell to Dimond-West 3-1 in an opening-round District I finals baseball game Saturday in Anchorage.
Kodiak faces a must-win game in the double-elimination tournament today, 4 p.m., against the loser of Sunday’s Abbott-O-Rabbit/Palmer game.
“This was a well played game by both teams,” Kodiak coach Mel LeVan said.
Kodiak’s Jakob Arnold pitched all six innings on 64 pitches, 43 for strikes. He went to a three-ball count on only two hitters. He also struck out five and allowed four hits.
However, those four hits, coupled with one Kodiak error led to the three Dimond-West runs — two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Kodiak’s only run came on a Blake James single that scored Sam Kirkenschlager.
LeVan praised Jon LeVan for making a diving catch that resulted in a double play in the third inning.
On Friday, Kodiak finished District I East pool play with a 10-5 loss to Abbott-O-Rabbit.
Melvin Javier hit his second home run of the pool play. He also threw 3.2 innings of no-hit ball before he reached his pitch limit of 95 pitches.
On Saturday, Kodiak fell to Far North 14-1 in an opening-round game of the District I finals.
The loss dropped Kodiak to a loser-out game Sunday against Soldotna.
The score was not reported before deadline.
