A bullseye handed Erik Berggren the victory in the final benchrest rimfire rifle match of the season Sunday at the Salonie Creek Rifle Range.

Berggren and Mike Kerwood both posted perfect scores of 400 points, but Berggren was awarded the victory based off his 36 bullseyes to Kerwood’s 35.

Only three points separated all five shooters.

“Congratulations are in order for all the shooters who participated in 2002, as the final scores reflect the improvement in the whole firing line, with the points packed so tight together,” Kerwood wrote in an email to the Daily Mirror.

Because of inclement weather, this was the first Sunday series rifle competition in three weeks. The weather for the season finale couldn’t have been any better.

“Warm temps and gentle breezes made for a great day that called to be outdoors,” Kerwood wrote.

1. Erik Berggren, 400 points (36 bullseyes); 2. Mike Kerwood, 400 (35); 3. Bob White, 398 (25); 4. Andy Finke, 398 (23); 5. Tre Heckerman, 397 (24).
