A new 5-kilometer fun run is joining the Kodiak running circuit.

The inaugural Run for Respect 5K is 10 a.m. Saturday.

The race, put on by the Kodiak Women’s Resource and Crisis Center, starts at the Sun’Aq Tribe office and finishes at Woody Way Field.

Hot dogs and the music of DJ Marc will be awaiting runners at the finish line.

Registration is free and will start at 8 a.m.

The run emphasizes brining awareness to child abuse.

“It’s to bring awareness to the community about the subjects of domestic violence, sexual assault,” said KWRCC’s Sandra Wilkins. “That’s why we’re doing it, but also bringing awareness that there is a place they can go to get help, anyone.”
