Kodiak coach Bryan Ellsworth gets his team ready before a game earlier this season at Joe Floyd Track and Field. 

Kodiak’s Bryan Ellsworth was voted the Northern Lights Conference football coach of the year, while four of his players earned first team accolades.

Seniors Josh Miguel and Vince Mangrobang were the Bears’ big winners, claiming spots on the first team offense and defense. 

Miguel earned the honors as an offensive tackle and an interior lineman, while Mangrobang was honored as a return specialist and a defensive back. He was also a second team halfback.  

Seniors Edgee Ocampo (outside linebacker) and Josue Martinez (inside linebacker) also were placed on the first team. Martinez was also a third team fullback.  

Earning second-team offense nods were Ryan Walker (quarterback and outside linebacker), Gideon Craig (tackle and interior lineman), Dylan Zurflueh (center), Igan Galindez (defensive back) and Anthony Francisco (punter). 

In his second season, Ellsworth guided Kodiak to a third place finish in the NLC with a 1-2 record, 2-6 overall. 

Soldotna took home the other four major awards. Jersey Truesdell was named the offensive player of the year, Galen Brantley Jr.  the defensive player of the year, Melvin Lloyd the lineman of the year and Eric Pomerleau the assistant coach of the year.
