Kodiak’s boys dialed it up from long range to snap a four-game losing skid Thursday at Kenai.

The Bears drained 10 3-pointers and topped the Kardinals 64-42 in a nonconference basketball game.

Senior Sam Galindo led the way, posting a game-high 18 points, which included a pair of triples. Sophomore center Jackson Krug tossed in 12 points, while sophomore Shawn Case dropped three long balls and finished with 11 points.

Six different Kodiak players hit a 3-pointer as the Bears won for the first time in 2020 and improved to 3-4 overall.

Kodiak had lost four in a row — Dimond, Grace Christian, Palmer and Chugiak — dating back to Dec. 21.

Kenai, a 3A school formerly of the 4A Northern Lights Conference, led 11-8 after the first quarter. Kodiak grabbed its first lead at 16-14 on a Galindo triple and increased the margin to 26-20 at halftime.

The Bears broke it open in the second half, scoring 17 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth.

For the Kardinals, Evan Stockton had 12 points, while Braedon Pitsch also pitched in with 10 points.

Kodiak remains on the Kenai Peninsula to play Soldotna today and Saturday in a pair of NLC games.
