Dylan Anthony tested his legs in a new event at the Occidental Invitational on Saturday in California.

The University of Alaska Anchorage sophomore competed in his first 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished fourth with a time of 9 minutes, 22.87 seconds — just shy of an NCAA Division II provisional mark.

The steeplechase is a 3,000-meter obstacle course featuring hurdles and a water pit.

Teammate Jaymi Bethea placed 25th out of 70 in the women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 17:45.37.

On Friday and Saturday, UAA competes in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships in Monmouth, Ore.


Former Port Lions student Marquee Strong signed a National Letter of Intent to play women’s basketball at Lamar Community College in Colorado.

Strong was a member of Port Lions’ back-to-back 1A state titles in 2010 and 2011. She moved to Colorado with her parents at the beginning of her junior year.
