Dylan Anthony opened his sophomore outdoor track and field season with a victory Friday in California.

The University of Alaska Anchorage distance specialist topped the 10,000-meter field with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 30 minutes, 41.93 seconds at the Occidental Distance Carnival.

The race consisted of 56 runners, with Anthony’s teammates Yonatan Yilma and Jacob Parisien finishing second and third.

UAA teammate Jaymi Bethea placed 33rd in the women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 18:35.94.
