For the second straight season, the Kodiak ESS Ravens are headed to the mix six state volleyball tournament.

ESS punched its ticket to the big dance by finishing second at the Denali Conference Championships. The Ravens fell to host Nikolaevsk 3-0 in the championship game on Saturday.

The tournament was supposed to be held at Kodiak High School, but inclement weather on the island kept the two visiting teams — Nikolaevsk and Fort Yukon — stranded on the Kenai Peninsula.

The tournament was shifted to Nikolaevsk, and Kodiak ESS managed to get to the Peninsula.

The Ravens went 2-2 in the tournament, beating Fort Yukon twice and losing to defending champion Nikolaevsk twice.

The mix six state tournament will be held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 2 at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

ESS placed seventh in its first trip to state in program history last season.
