The final mega volleyball tournament of the season begins today in Anchorage.
Kodiak is one of 20 teams competing in the Dimond/Service Tournament that will take place at both high schools.
The Bears are in pool C with Juneau, Kenai, Service and South. They will play matches against each of those teams beginning today at 5 p.m. at Service.
The top two teams in each of the five pools advance to Saturday’s gold bracket, while the remainder of the teams will drop to the silver and bronze brackets.
Dimond, East Homer, Thunder Mountain and West Valley are in pool A. Bartlett, Colony, Grace, Soldotna and West are in pool B, while Chugiak, Eagle River, Lathrop, Nikiski and Wasilla re in pool D.
Kodiak finishes the regular season on Oct. 26-27 with a pair of home Northern Lights Conference matches against Palmer.
It will be the final home appearances for seniors Kathryn Carstens, Madelaine Egdorf, Kyla Nocon, Katie Banks and Kateleen Sofranes.
Kodiak’s grapplers will be at the Homer Round Robin Rumble today and Saturday.
The Bears will be in the field with Kenai, host Homer, Nikiski, Soldotna and Voznesenka.
Kodiak opened the 2018 season last week at the Houston Altercation. At that meet, defending 160-pound state champion Josh Nummer was the runner-up placer in the 171-pound class.
