Kodiak’s Middle School boys cross country team placed three runners in the top 10 to finish third at the Borough Invitational in Wasilla on Sept. 13.

The boys compiled 66 points.

Keith Osowski was second, covering the 2.2-mile Crevasse Moraine Trail course in 11 minutes, 57 seconds.

Sawyer Olsen was seventh (12:41), Jacob Alwert 10th (12:47), Jack Hannah 19th (13:16), Nick Doerksen 28th (13:48) and Tyler Tueber 42nd (14:11).

Melissa DeGuzman was the top Kodiak girl finisher in 14th with a time of 14:27.

Lauren Deal was 24th (14:51), Arielle Himelbloom 32nd (15:15), Chloe Nelson 45th (15:40), Devon Cummiskey 54th (16:01) and Kierra Murphy 55th (16:05).

Both DeGuzman and Deal received a ribbon for placing in the top 10 in their age groups.

More than 150 runners participated in both races.

“Although the course was longer than the Ft. Abercrombie course (1.5 miles), the team was well prepared to go the extra distance,” Kodiak coach Dale Nelson wrote in an email. “The primarily flat and well groomed course was eagerly viewed by the Kodiak team.”
