Kordell Pillans and Montana football earned a 38-23 Big Sky Conference win at Portland State University Saturday at Hillsboro Stadium.
The win moved Montana to 7-2 overall, 4-1 in the Big Sky, and shot the Grizzlies to No. 5 in the AFCA FCS Coaches’ Poll and No. 6 in the Stats FCS Media Poll.
Pillans, who started Montana’s two previous games, played in Saturday’s game in which the Grizzlies rolled to 464 yards of offense — 335 through the air.
Montana hosts Idaho at 11 a.m. Saturday at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. The game will be broadcast on Root Sports.
Webber International University senior Kalameli Matautia racked up nine kills and six digs in a 3-1 loss to St. Thomas University Saturday in Miami Gardens, Florida.
Webber dropped to 7-17 overall, 3-11 in the Sun Conference.
• Katie Banks and Edmonds Community College clinched a spot in the Northwest Athletic Conference Championships with a 3-1 victory over Shoreline.
Banks, a freshman, appeared in two sets but did not get in the statistical sheet.
Edmonds is second in the NWAC North Division with an 8-3 conference record, 26-12 overall.
Simon Fraser University sophomore Marina Cummiskey scored 16 points in a meet against Seattle University Saturday in Seattle.
Cummiskey swam the third leg of Simon Fraser’s winning 400-meter freestyle relay team (4:01.44), while also picking up a third in the 200 freestyle (2:11.59) and a fourth in the 50 freestyle (28.53). She was also part of Simon’s fourth-place 400 medley relay (4:39.57).
