Beginning Northern Lights Conference play against Soldotna and Wasilla is not an easy task. Just ask the Kodiak girls. 

Wasilla swept the weekend series in the Mat-Su Valley, winning 57-26 on Friday and 63-11 on Saturday. 

Kodiak was outscored by Soldotna and Wasilla 242-83 and dropped to 0-4 in the NLC, 4-6 overall. 

Junior Leslie Spear tallied a double-double in Friday’s game, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. 

Avie Arevalo added six points. 

Jazlynn Novelli scored a game-high 16 points for Wasilla (2-0 NLC, 6-6 overall). 

The Warriors led 31-13 at halftime. 

Kodiak was held under four points in every quarter of Saturday’s game. Wasilla led 37-6 at halftime and 58-10 at the end of the third quarter. 

Senior Ava Pruitt paced the Bears with seven points, six rebounds and three steals. Spears added four points, two rebounds and two steals. 

Jazlynn Novelli dropped a game-high 17 points for Wasilla, while Harmony McSorley added 13 points. 

Bella Hays had nine points, 10 rebounds, five steals and two blocks.

Kodiak hosts Redington Friday and Saturday at Kodiak High School.  

 

KODIAK ESS

Despite getting 20 points from junior Teanna Amodo, Kodiak ESS fell 34-29 to Lumen Christi in a 1A Peninsula Conference game Friday in Anchorage. 

Trailing by six at halftime, ESS trimmed the deficit to 26-24 to begin the fourth quarter. Lumen outscored ESS 8-5 in the final period. 

Sophia Duppes led Lumen with 15 points. 

ESS (0-2) plays at Cook Inlet Academy Wednesday.
