All eyes will be on the girls this week as the Dimond Lady Lynx Prep Shootout Tournament begins today in Anchorage.

With 16 teams, the shootout — a four-day extravaganza — is the biggest girls tournament of the season. The field includes Bartlett, Palmer, ACS, South, Lathrop, Kodiak, West Valley, Ketchikan, Dimond, Thunder Mt., Colony, Point Hope, Juneau, Wasilla, Chugiak and Soldotna.

All five Northern Lights Conference teams will be present. This will be Kodiak’s first shootout appearance since the 2012-2013 season — a year before the Bears won state with a 27-0 record.

The state championship team makes it easy to forget how great the 2012-13 team was. Kodiak was 17-0 before running into Dimond in the semifinals of the 2013 shootout. The Lynx won 49-43. The Bears rebounded, thumping West Valley 54-30 to place third.
