Kodiak’s Bryan Gonzalez earned the triple crown of wrestling this past weekend at the Alaska USA Championships in Wasilla.

Competing for Kodiak Kid Club Wrestling, Gonzalez won folkstyle, freestyle and Greco Roman 100-pound titles in the cadet division.

Kodiak Club coach Craig Walton said when a wrestler wins all three it is called a triple crown.

Nolan Wandersee captured the folkstyle junior 220-pound title, while he also placed second in Greco and freestyle.

Krystal Fabricante (115 pounds), Emily Lorring (118) and Maricel Mangrobang (124) all won their weight classes at the state women freestyle tournament.

Kodiak also received second-place finishes from Keith Bruce (folkstyle, Greco, freestyle), Scott Larionoff (folkstyle), Shaun Walton (Greco, freestyle) and Kevin Lepola (Greco).

“The kids in the club have been working very hard for the last four months and it showed in how solidly they wrestled this weekend. This team has a lot of depth from the younger kids to the older kids. They can be extremely proud of their accomplishments,” a Club news release to the Daily Mirror read.

The Club claimed the grand championship title for the small-school division, a second-place trophy for the open/cadet division and a third-place finish for the kids division.
