Kodiak’s Dylan Anthony picked up another running accolade Saturday.

The University of Alaska Anchorage junior finished ninth at the NCAA Division II West Regional Championships in Spokane, Wash., which earned him his third all-region honor.

Anthony was one of two UAA runners to place in the top 10, as the Seawolves finished second behind Chico State (Calif.) to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships on Nov. 23 in Spokane.

Anthony, a state champion cross country runner for Kodiak, covered the 10-kilometer course in 32 minutes, 14.4 seconds. Teammate Victor Samoei was fifth in 31:49.

This will be Anthony’s third trip to the Division II Championships. Last year, he finished 23rd to earn his first collegiate All-American honor. He finished 81st as a freshman.

• Eastern Oregon University’s Christy Roe placed 42nd at the Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship Saturday in Idaho.

The senior completed the 5-kilometer course in 20:49.58, which was good for fourth on her team. Eastern Oregon finished eighth.


David Anderson of Wisconsin Lutheran University participated in his team’s 27-12 victory over Rockford Saturday in Illinois.

This was the first time Anderson was on the field for the varsity team this season.

The sophomore tight end also plays on Lutheran’s junior varsity team.

Wisconsin Lutheran is an NCAA Division III team that is a member of the Northern Athletic Conference.


Jori Lindquist picked up a pair of top-five finishes in Northern Arizona’s 152-148 loss to Colorado State University on Saturday in Colorado.

The freshman was third in the 100-yard backstroke (58.66) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (54.43). She was also part of the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays that placed second.

On Nov. 21, Northern Arizona is at the UNLV Invite in Las Vegas.

• Laura Griffing swam to two second-place finishes in University of Idaho’s 177-85 victory at Seattle University Saturday.

Griffing was second in the 100 (1:06.92) and 200 (2:29.43) breaststroke. She was a member of the first-place 200 medley relay.

Idaho is at the Houston Invitational on Nov. 22.


Marueen Sabado knocked down three kills in UAA’s 25-23, 25-21, 23-25, 28-26 win over University of Alaska Fairbanks on Saturday in Anchorage.

The Kodiak High School graduate also tallied two block assists and two digs.

UAA (18-8, 12-2 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) is ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Division II West Region and will host No. 10 Western Washington on Thursday. UAA beat Western in a five-set match earlier this season.



Alysa Horn posted 15 points for TSV Viernheim in a 69-64 win over Jahn Muenchen in a Bundelisga second division game Saturday in Germany.

The former KHS and UAA star shot 6-of-16 from the field in 37 minutes. She also corralled eight rebounds and had three assists and two blocks.

Horn is averaging a team-best 17.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game in her first professional season.

Viernheim (4-3) is sixth in the 12-team South Division and will play eighth-place Sandhausen on Nov. 16.
