Kodiak High’s varsity basketball squads split a co-ed City League doubleader Tuesday evening at the Kodiak Middle School gym. 

The Hornets — the boys’ team — earned their fifth consecutive victory, an 85-72 decision over Asian Grocieries Destroyers. The Dino — the girls’ team — dropped a 101-65 contest to Kolokoyz. 

In the boys game, Jackson Krug scored a team-high 20 points to lead the Hornets past the Destroyers for the third time this season. The Hornets motored to a 6-1 record. Frankie Marcelo dropped 14 points, while Connor Case added 13 points and Ian Rocheleau 12.

Five Destroyers scored in double figures with Elijah Hiner leading the way with 20 points. Louis Rocheleau had 16 points, Jemuel Mangalus 13, Brian Caguing 12 and Adam Kilborn 11. 

For Dino, Leslie Spear dropped a season-high 27 points in the loss. Avie Arevalo chipped in 10 points, while Angle Mangrobang and Marielle Mangrobang each had nine points. Dino dropped to 2-4 on the season. 

Joseph Casabar netted a game-high 26 points for Kolokoyz. Marck Abellera added 12 points and Erick Soliven 10 points. 

The Hornets play F/V Emily Rose at 8 p.m. Friday at Kodiak High School. Dino entertains F/V Sitkinak at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Kodiak Middle School.
