Kodiak’s Alison Narog swims during a meet earlier this season at the Kodiak Community Swimming Pool.

The Kodiak boys’ string of 10 consecutive regional titles was snapped Saturday at the Region III Swimming and Diving Championships at Kenai High School.

The Bears saw their decade of dominance end with a third-place finish in the 10-team meet. Kodiak tallied 50 points, which was behind Kenai’s 76 and Colony’s 65.

A year after missing the podium by one point, the Kodiak girls placed second with 64 points — 16 markers behind champion Colony.

Alison Narog was a big reason why the Kodiak girls returned to the podium. The freshman was the program’s only triple winner, taking the 50-yard freestyle (25.19 seconds), the 100 butterfly (1:00.59) and leading off Kodiak’s winning 400 freestyle relay (3:48.84). Addi Rogers, Ashleigh Nicholson and Leslie Spear joined Narog on the relay squad.

Spear picked up the only other victory for the Kodiak girls, successfully defending her 200 freestyle title (2:00.17).

Ian Rocheleau was a double-winner for the Kodiak boys, touching the wall first in the 200 individual medley (1:59.40) and the 500 freestyle (4:57.44). Jackson Krug was victorious in the 200 freestyle (1:49.35).

Up next for Kodiak is the ASAA/First National Bank Alaska Swimming and Diving Championships that start Friday at Bartlett High School.
